Place Value

We are preparing for our next Mastery Check for Unit 5 in Math. As of now, it will be on January 28th (with no snow days and if I can get everything taught!). Below is a picture of a sheet we did today in class. We talked about breaking up numbers into different forms. Students should have this worksheet to use to study at home. This next test should be fairly easy, I hope!

Things to note:
-we circled the thousands place because it is where we see that one number is bigger than the other
-we are working on reading math sentences, making sure to start at the left and read the the right and reading the less than (<) and greater than (>) signs correctly
-Expanded form is using additions
-word form is writing in words, we are still working to make sure students use hyphens between numbers and read the words correctly

Unit 6 Math

This new unit in math, we will be working with place value and adding and subtracting, including numbers with decimals (like money). Students shouldn't struggle with this if they are paying attention in class, but I have told them to practice at home. Their math journal is their greatest resource! While we have been back from break, I have introduced place value (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands) and we have worked with standard form, expanded form, and word form of each number. There are examples in their journals of each of these! If you can practice adding and subtracting different amounts of money, that will help your student prepare for this unit. We will be working with rounding with different place values so if students cannot recognize the different places they will struggle with this!

Our next unit is fraction - be prepared!!
